Incorporating Environmental Best Practice into Commercial Tenant Lease Agreements – Part 3

Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and partnered by Eversheds, the British Council for Offices and RICS, the Centre for Research in the Built Environment will provide further comprehensive guidance for lawyers, property owners and commercial tenants to assist them adoption of green leases.

Part 1 provides a number of “model” lease clauses together with best practice tips and recommendations to be discussed at lease negotiation stages.  Part 2 provides a legislative overview driving innovation together with a background to the research that led to the provisions set in Part 1.

Part 3 will be unique as it will encompass and focus on existing, multi-tenanted commercial buildings - the biggest challenge for improvements in energy performance within the UK. Based on exemplar case studies from previous work together with additional projects from a wide variety of prestigious sources, the Guide will provide a stepped approach with recommendations for development of a green lease in both formal and informal contexts.

This Guide is due to be published in December 2008.  If you would like to discuss this in advance or could provide valuable contributions to the exemplar case studies or projects, we would like to hear from you. Click here for our contact details.

Our forum is now on-line!

Please visit our forum to discuss your views and ask your questions on green-leases and other relevant subjects.  We have posted a few questions to get discussions started, but please feel free to start your own.  There is an option for us to split the forum into categories according to profession (e.g. landlords, tenants, building managers, investors) which we may implement at a later date, depending on response.

We look forward to joining your discussions on this important development in business sustainability.

Kind Regards
